In Obsidian's latest RPG, AOW, players are faced with a divisive experience. While some may find certain aspects disappointing, there's no denying the game is building a dedicated fan base. To succeed in this challenging world, players must always break down their gear for essential crafting materials. Upgrading weapons is emphasized over leveling up, as enemies scale based on armor tier. To avoid being caught underpowered, focus on upgrading only a select few weapons, selling off the rest for precious resources. Money is tight in AOW, so players must be strategic in their selling and purchasing decisions.
Choosing the right party members is crucial for success in AOW. While the starting companion, Kai, may seem appealing with his familiar voice, Gat proves to be the better choice for his healing abilities. Additionally, having a common level one spell book for utility in exploring the environment is essential. Grenades are also a must-have for breaking through obstacles. Learning spells from the Wizard skill tree can enhance their effectiveness in combat, offering players an edge in challenging situations.
Completing bounties is highlighted as a major source of income in AOW, providing players with unique equipment and much-needed cash. Maps are filled with secrets and valuable loot, including unique items like the Wayfarer's Ring and Boots of the Bricklayer. Quest resolutions can have a significant impact on the game, with early choices influencing later outcomes. By helping certain characters early on, players can pave the way for smoother journeys ahead in this unforgiving RPG world.
